Project Manager for Climate Adaption in Mongolia

Job duties and responsibilities
- Project Management and Implementation.
- Collaborate closely with MRCS, to oversee the day-to-day management and implementation of project activities in collaboration with MRCS and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that project activities are executed according to the project proposal, work plan, indicators, targets and budget.
- Monitor project progress and ensure that all activities are completed within the stipulated timeframes and in accordance with quality standards.
- Technical Expertise and Support.
- Maintain a proactive and nuanced awareness of climate and environmental shifts at the global, regional and national levels.
- Closely monitor evolving policies, intervention measures, and the roles of key stakeholders (e.g., governments, NGOs, multilateral agencies) in climate adaptation initiatives
- Works closely with relevant technical units of IFRC Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) and Geneva (when necessary) as well as with ICRC, Partner National Societies, relevant IFRC Reference Centres and key external stakeholders throughout the programming cycle to facilitate a synergetic effort to programmes and operations. Provide relevant climate adaptation technical expertise to ensure high-quality technical support.
- Contribute and coordinate the development and review of project technical documents, including risk assessments, climate vulnerability assessments, and early warning system designs.
- Ensure that project activities align with best practices and international standards in climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination.
- Serve as the focal point for climate-related initiatives within the IFRC East Asia Country Cluster Delegation.
- Facilitate and coordinate stakeholder engagement in climate adaptation-related events, workshops, and conferences.
- Build and nurture solid relationships with key external partners in East Asia – including academia and the private sector – for enhancing innovative approaches in programmes and operations, and research as a base for evidence aimed at supporting advocacy on expanding investment in preparedness and community resilience.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, government agencies, and other partners.
- Represent the IFRC climate focused projects in external meetings and events, ensuring effective dissemination of project information and achievements.
- Funding and Resource Mobilization
- Explore and engage in initiating and securing funding opportunities for supporting National Societies in East Asia concerning climate adaptation.
- Coordinate with the Strategic Partnerships and Resource Mobilization (SPRM) team in APRO and EACCD, Partner National Societies and donors to mobilize resources in support the IFRC climate related programmes and operations in East Asia.
- Contribute to project proposal and concept notes development process to potential donors.
- Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of a pipeline of potential funding sources and opportunities.
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Implement the project’s monitoring and evaluation framework, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Ensure that all project activities are documented and reported accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support the evaluation of project impact and contribute to the development of lessons learned and best practices.
- Capacity Building and Training:
- Support the organization and delivery of training sessions and workshops related to climate change adaptation, early warning systems, and livelihood diversification.
- Assist in the development of training materials and resources as needed.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building among project staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Logistics and Procurement:
- Assist in the procurement of goods and services required for project activities, ensuring compliance with MRCS and IFRC policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all project-related materials and equipment are properly managed and maintained.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare regular progress reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, as well as contributions to finance reports, for submission to the Head of Delegation and other relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records and documentation.
- Contribute to the development of project communication materials, such as newsletters, brochures, and social media content.
Duties applicable to all staff:
- Actively work towards the achievement of the Secretariat’s goals.
- Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross/Red Crescent principles.
- Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager.

Education requirement
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in climate change, environmental studies, disaster risk reduction, development studies, or a related field.
- Completion of relevant professional training courses, such as climate change adaptation, environmental sustainability, disaster preparedness, international development, project management for climate initiatives, community-based adaptation, and sustainable livelihoods is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in project management, climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, or related fields, preferably with an international organization or NGO
- Strong technical expertise in climate change adaptation, early warning systems, and livelihood diversification, with experience in developing and implementing related projects and initiatives
- Proven experience in managing and coordinating multi-stakeholder projects in the thematic areas, including working with government agencies, local communities, and other partners.
- Strong capacity-building and training skills, with experience in organizing and facilitating workshops and training sessions for diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team environment, with experience in remote collaboration and coordination.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally, including frequent visits to project sites in Mongolia.
