JOB SUMMARY
The Project Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day implementation of the project, under the guidance and supervision of the Country Director. This role involves working closely with the team to manage the project from inception to closure, including planning, reporting, and execution of activities. The Project Manager must navigate the political landscape of public health diplomatically to ensure project success.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Serves as the Orbis project representative in dealings with local partners, local authorities and with various public and nonprofit organizations, agencies, and institutions in the assigned project area.
- Facilitates project approvals and revision processes as per Orbis and local government policies and procedures.
- Conducts grant and contract assessments and prepares reports necessary for program continuity and reporting. Monitors compliance with grant and contract requirements.
- Identifies problems and negotiates corrective action concerning programmatic issues and basic budgetary management.
- Plans, promotes, and develops eye health projects and programs by delivering proposals and projects plans.
- Develops budgets, staffing plans, and action plans to ensure proper personnel, facilities, and supplies to meet grant/contract deliverables and reporting.
- Provides technical assistance, consultation, and guidance to project partners, and/or local agencies, health-related organizations, research entities, and institutions to develop, extend, and improve public eye health studies, programs, systems, infrastructure, strategies.
- Collaborates with other Orbis offices on best practices, promoting identification and synthesis of lessons learned for organizational sharing and learning.
- Provides proper capacity building and promotes leadership and ownership of the project partners to ensure sustainability of the program intervention.
- Facilitates transparent financial management of the program including the adherence with donor financial requirement and following up with the recommendations from internal and external audits.
- Reviews the project financial report to make sure all expenditure is in line with the approved budget - as required by Orbis and the donor.
- Assists with the development and implementation of effective communication strategies to disseminate public eye health information to community health departments, and other entities as needed.
- Performs work related to the initiation, administration, and close-out of contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements.
REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reporting directly to the Country Director, the Project Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance & Operations, Communications, Program Technology, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Development departments.
This role demands strategic engagement with high-level stakeholders, government officials, and influential partners, requiring strong negotiation and relationship management skills. Through these dynamic working relationships, the Project Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the organization's mission forward, ensuring impactful project outcomes and sustainable community development.
